1. What is Resident Permit?
A Resident Permit is an official document (or card) required by most countries around the world, including Liberia, for foreign nationals to be granted the right to reside in a country for a fixed or indefinite length of time beyond the initial Visa or other entry permit which they have been issued originally to enter the country. Applicants obtain their Resident Permit document (or card) after submitting an application with the required information, making the online payment and provided they meet the criteria and the application is successful.

2. Resident Permit Requirement and Eligibility
All foreign nationals, unless otherwise exempt, who wish to remain in Liberia more than 90 days are required to apply for a Resident Permit. Remaining in Liberia beyond 90 days without a Resident Permit or special leave to remain/exemption is an infringement of the Law.

3. When, How and Where Can I Apply for a Resident Permit?
All foreign nationals who wish to remain in Liberia beyond 90 days must apply for a Resident Permit by completing, submitting and paying for their application online at: https://rp.lis.gov.lr etc.
4. What will Happen when I Apply for my Resident Permit?
- The summitted application will be reviewed by the Liberia Immigration Services. - Once the Liberia Immigration Services have decided that you are eligible you will be notified and your Application Status will be updated as either Approved or Rejected.

5. I’ve made the Resident Permit Application Payment, what should I do now?
Post making your payment, you will be asked to book an in-person appointment with the Liberia Immigration Services for your Biometric enrolment to take place. You will need to attend this appointment, as scheduled, and bring along all original documents which you would have been asked to upload online at the time of completing your Resident Permit application. At the in-person appointment you will be given clear guidance on the process flow. The appointment is for the Biometric enrolment to be carried out and a physical verification of original documents.
6. I Missed my in-person scheduled appointment, what do I do now?
If you missed your in-person scheduled appointment, you do not need to worry. Simply return to the online portal, simply go to the resume application section, but applicant can reschedule appointment maximum up-to two times only. where you will be able to reschedule another in-person appointment again. NB: applicant can reschedule appointments up to a maximum of two times only. If you’ve missed your second rescheduled appointment then your Resident Permit application will be rejected and you will need to start the process again.
7. Can I get a refund?
No – Resident Permit Application fees are non-refundable under any circumstances. The same applies across all categories of Resident Permits and whether the application is for a new Residence Card, a Renewal of an existing Residence Card or the replacement of a lost/damaged or stolen card. No refunds will be granted.
8. My Resident Permit application has been Rejected, what should I do now?
You will have been notified of the rejection of your Resident Permit application via an SMS to your mobile or via an e-mail. Along with the rejection notification, the Liberia Immigration Services will give reasons for the rejection: rejections remarks are accessible via the application portal. the applicant will be advised to renew their application process and/or modify/correct his/her application data/documents and resubmit for validation & enrolment. If the application is rejected to any suspected fraud, you will not be allowed to amend/renew the application process.
9. How long will it take for my Resident Permit application to be processed and for my permit to be produced?
Successful applicants can expect to wait up to 2 weeks before they are issued the Permit, from the date of them having attended their in-person appointment to submit their biometric and have their original documents checked. Applicants will be notified by SMS and/or email when the Permit is ready. Please contact the Liberia Immigration Services if you have not heard anything from them after two weeks of attending an in-person appointment.
10. When do I receive my Resident Permit card?
Applicant will be notified on SMS/E-mail once card Resident Permit ready for delivery, applicant have visit LIS office for collecting Resident Permit card with valid ID proof.
11. Do I need to obtain a separate Resident Permit for dependents (family members or others foreign nationals under your roof or care) accompanying me?
Yes. Each individual wishing to remain longer than 90 days in Liberia is required to be in possession of a valid Resident Permit. The application process is the same, but can be done at the same time online – you will see a section entitled. where you will be able to add information for your dependents.

12. I am applying for a Resident Permit with my family, where do I find information on the process?
Once you login in application portal for Resident Permit, you will get option to add your dependent details.
13. When, at what stage and where do I apply for a renewal of my Resident Permit?
You must apply to renew your Resident Permit via the following website. Foreign nationals in possession of a Resident Permit must apply to renew their Permit before 60 days of expiry of their current Resident Permit.
14. I lost or damaged my Resident Permit or it was stolen, what do I do?
If you have lost or damaged your current Resident Permit, or it was stolen, you must report this to the nearest police station immediately AND apply for a new Resident Permit to be reissued via the following website and other relevant documents as indicated on the application portal.
16. Change in employment, what should I do?
Applicants have to raise a request for reissue of Resident Permit card through application along with relevant documents.
17. Can another person carry out the procedure for me?
No. No other person may file your Resident Permit application in your stead (DEV TEAM: seems to that it must be “if you are 18 years or older” which needs to be specified and thought the online application can be completed by their parent or legal guardian, they will still need to attend an in-person appointment to submit their biometrics and for document check). You must come in person for physical documents verification and biometric enrolment along with dependents (If applicable) and same process to be followed for collection of Resident Permit card.
18. Can a Resident Permit be Revoked?
A Resident Permit can be revoked at any time by the Liberia Immigration Services for specific reasons, such as if an individual:
  • - is convicted of an offence against the laws of Liberia including serious offence reasonably believed to be facilitating the committing of any serious offence in Liberia.
  • - is convicted of an offence under the laws of another country, the nature of which offence would, in the opinion of the Commissioner General, make his or her continued presence in Liberia contrary to the public intrest.
  • - A Resident Permit can also be revoked if the grounds for granting the permit no longer exist.
